Kootenai County is a government entity located in beautiful Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. North Idaho Centennial Trail is 23 miles long, extending from the Idaho/Washington state line to Higgens Point, 6 miles east of Coeur d’Alene at the end of Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive.

Kootenai County (/ ˈ k uː t n iː / KOOT-nee) is located in the U.S. state of Idaho. As of the 2020 census , its population was 171,362, [ 1 ] making it the third-most populous county in Idaho and the largest in North Idaho , the county accounting for 45.4% of the region's total population.

Born from a promise to its creator, the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho now exists as a sovereign tribal government. On September 20th, 1974, the 67 remaining Kootenais declared a peaceful war on the United States of America.

Kootenay is the common spelling in British Columbia, including in the name of the Lower Kootenay First Nation. Kootenai is used in Montana and Idaho, including in the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes.
