2015年12月21日 · Hey guys, I'm new to knife making. I've managed to make a pretty nice handle and I'm doing a svord friction folder. the blade is carbon steel. i'd like to do a nice design on the blade -- i've been thinking about acid etching or patina. Attached is what i'm trying to achieve, I'm just not sure how to do it. It appears to be acid etching.

2019年8月1日 · It depends on how you want your finished blade to look. Electrical etching produces pretty clean lines and is relatively easy to do. I have not used that method because I am a fan of acid etching. Ferric Chloride does a nice job of etching but I do not believe it is the best choice for the nicest outcome.

2011年12月31日 · Unless you plan on needing to make a lot of "on the fly" etching designs, this might be a case of being penny-wise and pound-foolish. You can get a sheet of high quality stencils in as many designs as you can fit on a 3"x8" piece of stencil material mailed to your door for around $44 from TUS.

2007年7月25日 · Thanks Paul,interesting point about increase of grip.I have textured knife handles for grip.Thing with the knife blade is the grooves are so small I don't think food materials will push into it deep enough to create grip.It feels slippery when I pinch and slide my thumb and finger along it.Grip with gimping or checkering requires something softer to fill the gap for grip.

2000年11月25日 · Metallurgy books that I've come across tend to be more of the "textbook" persuasion (which isn't so bad except they're priced accordingly). Perhaps specifing "knife-making" would work out better. You're etching advice is very helpful and is pretty much just what I'm looking for. Much obliged.

2008年12月29日 · I don't have any experience with their (IMG-Electromark) etching machines. After quite a bit of researching, I decided on the Personalizer Plus made by Electro-Chem Etch. It has variable voltage output, which was recommended to me by other knife makers. Although I haven't been using it long, I'm really happy with it so far.
