Kentucky issues over 150 different types of passenger and motorcycle license plates. License plates can be categorized into the following types: Regular (Standard Issue), Special, University, Independent College, Military, Military Motorcycle, Miscellaneous, Disabled, and Special Motorcycle Plates.

Kentucky offers a Veteran designation on Kentucky driver’s licenses and ID cards to honorably discharged Veterans. Apply in person at any Kentucky Driver Licensing Regional Office.

To request a VIC, Veterans must visit vets.gov, click on “ Apply for Printed Veteran ID Card ” on the bottom of the page and sign in or create an account. Veterans who apply for a card should receive it within 60 days and can check delivery status of their cards at vets.gov.

Kentucky Veteran Related License Plates The state of Kentucky offers the military community a choice of 19 special license plates which are shown below along with the prerequisites required to obtain them.

The letters “I”, “O”, “Q”, and “U”, are no longer available for plate personalization. This will be consistent with the visibility rules already in place for standard plates.

Kentucky Military and Veteran License Plates: Kentucky offers 28 license plate designs for motor vehicles and motorcycles to honor the service and sacrifice of eligible Service members, Veterans, retired Service members and their Family members.
