Many of us have seen the term “case hardened,” but know only that a tool so marked is hard. The case-hardened item may have a subdued coloring reminiscent of an “old-fashioned” tool.

Kasenite is straight sodium ferrocyanide. It produces a carbo-nitride case. Sodium ferrocyanide is available as a food grade additive used as an anti caking agent in table salt but you would probably have to buy a 40 kilo bag if you can find a supplier. It goes by the name yellow prussiate of soda so as not to scare people.

2005年12月19日 · I’ve been looking and looking, and can’t find any info about why kasenit is no longer sold. The basic ingredient, sodium ferrocyanide decahydrate is listed on the MSDS sheet from 2002 as being 46% of the product.

2011年4月13日 · It is commonly known as Yellow Prussiate of Soda and is widely available from any chemical supplier. You can probably order some from the local pharmacy too. The chemical name is Sodium Ferrocyanide and is available both in technical grade and food grade.
