Kantrum is a traditinal performance of Thai-Khmer ethnic in some province in Isan (Northeast) such as Surin, Buriram and Sisaket, used for singing along with worship dances or rituals, part of the name Kantrum comes from the sound.

2024年6月27日 · The results of the study found that Kantrum is a folk perfoming art of the Khmer Thai people that is widespread in Khmer-speaking societies. From a collection of more than 250 songs discovered, rhythms can be divided into four categories based on instrumentation, tempo, melody, and mood: 1) slow tempos, 2) medium tempos, and 3) fast tempos.

Kantrum is not only of great value to the surviving Khmer people as part of their heritage, but is a powerful healing method in the first place. In Khmer animism the people belief their happiness depends on the spirits that live around them.

Kuntrum is an interesting form of linguistic combination of Isan and Cambodian dialect. The main instruments are local fiddles called “sor” and the percussions called “klong tone”.
