When Kaladin swore his Fifth Oath, the burst of power that ensued allowed, to some degree, effective utilization of Nightblood's capabilities by Szeth to release the rest of the Honorbearers. Nightblood, who had been covertly conversing with Honorblades, connected to Kaladin and was able to grant Lashings to Szeth.
