Feb 23, 2013 · Also, if you can acquire any muriatic acid (for swimming pools) or sulfuric acid drain cleaner, you can use that and kno3 to make nitric acid and make nitrocellulose. Why you are lighting up a novice/naive 7-year-old post, started by a guy that hasn't been onsite for 7 years, for your third post on APC is beyond my comprehension.
Question about KNO3/Al flash powder. - Pyrotechnics - APC Forum
Aug 21, 2017 · I have tired ratios of KNO3/Al, 7/3, 50/50, 3/2, and 2/3. 2/3 proved to be the best which is odd considering the fuel is in excess in this ratio. When the oxidizer is added it makes it significantly harder to ignite. I know most flash powder comps contain some amount of sulfur and I know KNO3 isnt the best oxidizer you can get.
KNO3/al/s comp questions - Pyrotechnics - APC Forum
Feb 28, 2025 · I have made KNO3/sugar rockets and am working on perfecting my charcoal in my BP mix. My question is, what is the true safety of KNO3/al/s flash? Being pretty new to pyro, I am focused on the dangers and treat every powder as if it were to ignite at any second.
Kno3/Al/S Flash Powder Storage Stability? - APC Forum
Apr 17, 2019 · Although I've heard the KNo3/Aluminium/Sulfur slow flash composition is readily used in European fireworks. You would think this indicates some level of stability? So many variables to consider. Its driving me crazy lol, after days of research I'm still just as clueless! Advice is really appreciated from anyone who knows more about this than i do.

Feb 23, 2012 · Yes, use water to dissolve the sugar and KNO3 in the fry-pan and set the temp to 400°F (200°C) so that the sucrose can melt and caramelize. A full kilo of KNO3 can be dissolved into a liter of boiling water and 2000g of sucrose can be dissolved in a liter of 25°C water.
KNO3 / MG Composition! :) - Pyrotechnics - APC Forum
Jan 21, 2016 · KNO3 doesn't play well with either Mg OR aluminum. Your linseed oil coating works (for a while) because it "plastic coats" the particles. It won't last indefinitely on the shelf, unless you take the same cautions with the KNO3 as I suggested for the strontium nitrate. Instead of answering everything directly, let me ask a question.
KNO3/AL/S Flash Powder - is it safer than the others?
Apr 18, 2012 · Slow Flash -or- KNO3/Al/S is not more unstable in the presence of moisture anymore then any comp bound with an aqueous binder. It is also not pressure sensitive as this comp is the base for many effects and delays in rockets. I have pressed it to 12,000LPI and beyond with no effect.

Perfectly Drying KNO3 and Other Chems - Pyrotechnics - APC
Oct 9, 2012 · I always dry my charcoal, KNO3 and even sulfur (for the heck of it) before milling black powder. Normally my KNO3 is chunky. But after a week in my dessicator (w/ Calcium chloride & Magnessium sulfate) its fine and free flowing. It takes a long time to penetrate the moisture in deepths of the clumps.
KNO3 and KClO3 incompatibilities - Chemistry - APC Forum
Oct 14, 2024 · I can mix powder good enough for 3lb stingers and hummers out of the KNO3 / C / S I have without ever touching a ball mill or using the idiotic CIA process. The extent of my labor is a couple of screenings, 10 minutes in a giant granite mortar and pestle, spray it with 30mL or so of 75/25 water / alcohol, screen it again, and let it dry.
