It's the first generation of Uni-Q driver family and as such it suffers from initial shortcomings, which as per KEF in their 50years anniversary book, are the dispersion issues generated by the woofer's cone acting as an inadequate waveguide for the tweeter.

2017年4月28日 · I love Kef, have a pair of Reference 107, have owned several other pairs. I did not like the C55. At the time I thought it might have been the cheap cabinet but it might also have been a first generation Uni-Q thing as I did not like any of them.

So far, I've tried them with three different amplifiers: SE 2A3, PP 11BM8 (same "dually" tube as the 6BM8 triode/pentode but with 11v filament; ca. 8 wpc) and a harman/kardon hk770 (dual mono PP solid state @ ca. 65 wpc).

2012年10月24日 · I recently got a new Topping TP32 (TA2024B) at 15WPC @ 4ohm amp and purchased some used KEF C55 (4ohm, 8" woofer) I am not very happy with the combination. I tried USB DAC or analog inputs on the amp and it doesn't get very loud. At listenable volumes it really lacks any depth. It is mostly high-mids and highs but there is little to no bass.

As a matter of fact, KEF supplied the drivers for the BBC's famous "LS3/5a" monitor specification (speakers produced by Spendor, Rogers, and others).
