The ISU-122 (acronym of Istrebitelnaja - or Iosif Stalin -based - Samokhodnaya Ustanovka 122) was a Soviet assault gun used during World War II, mostly in the anti-tank role.

The JSU-122 become the most effective long-range tank destroyer, while the JSU-152 had the average armor penetration. That was because of absent of AP ammunition and slower muzzle velocity. That's why many western sources consider the JSU-122 as a "tank destroyer" and JSU-152 as an "assault gun".

Both the ISU-122 and ISU-122S remained in production until 1945. 1735 ISU-122 and 675 ISU-122S were built and remained in service with the Russian Army after the war for several years. The ISU-122 Assault Gun had a 122mm main gun & used a Russian IS tank chassis. It provided fire support for the infantry & doubled up as a tank destroyer.
