HMJS CAGWAY, located in picturesque and historic town of Port Royal, is the home of the sailors and naval officers in the Jamica Defence Force Coast Guard.

JDF Coast Guard (National Reserve) is a sub-unit of the JDF Coast Guard and has been in existence since 1963. It originated from two marine reserve organisations – Jamaica Marine Reserve (Harbour) and Jamaica Marine Reserve (Coast Guard). The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) comprises the Army, Air Wing and Coast Guard, together forming the military of Jamaica. The Jamaica Defence Force is constituted under the provisions of Section 4 of the Defence Act. Under this Act, the JDF has responsibility for the defence and protection from external forces or threat to the sovereignty of Jamaica.

The JDF Coast Guard operates an international coast radio station whose primary role is to listen for maritime distress and safety signals. The JDF Coast Guard’s involvement in developing a master plan for Jamaica started when two persons were selected for training in Norway .

The JDF Coast Guard is trained and equipped to deal with marine oil spills and deployed two members to Alaska in 1990 to assist with the clean up of the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

The Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard (JDF CG) received two new vessels and two trucks from the United States Government. The vessels and trucks were handed over to the Chief of Staff of the Jamaica Defence Force, Major General Stewart Saunders and the Commanding Officer of the JDF CG,

The JDF Coast Guard was formed in 1963 as the maritime arm of the Jamaica Defence Force. From a mere adjunct of the JDF, with simple and ill-defined roles, the Unit has had its missions and operating programmes expanded to meet Jamaica’s growing maritime needs.

2024年5月2日 · With the acquisition of its new Metal Shark interceptor fleet, the JDF-CG will join a growing list of 36 Fearless operators including the Puerto Rico Police Department, San Juan Police Department, Virginia Beach Police Department, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, NOAA Law Enforcement, and Royal Moroccan Navy.
