In this study, we investigated ionic liquid/organic semiconductor interfaces using molecular dynamics to reveal the microscopic properties of ionic liquids. The organic semiconductors include pentacene, rubrene, fullerene, and 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ).

The electrochemical features such as the electrical conductivity and capacitance of the promising ionic liquids and their hybrids are addressed thoroughly, together with their influencing factors like the nature, concentration, and functionalization of the nanoparticles, type of base fluids, working temperature, and addition of surfactants.

Chlorometallate ionic liquids are promising solvents for electrodeposition of Al-based, Ga-based, In-based, and Zn-based semiconductor materials. They are inexpensive compared with air- and water-stable ILs.

Because ionic liquids (ILs) are becoming prominent candidates for new high-performing electrolytes, their interface with solid substrates (e.g., metal electrodes or organic semiconductors) attracts substantial attention.

Ionic liquids can serve as gate dielectrics in single-molecule field-effect transistors (FETs) with quantum interference effects to effectively control the charge transport and achieve high performance.
