Thanks to the innovation of BAE Systems, the U.S. Army has begun phasing out the use of the explosive TNT in artillery. Its replacement, which is now in full production, is called IMX-101 and is much safer to handle and store than TNT, yet equally effective on the battlefield.

IMX-101 is a high-performance insensitive high explosive composite mixture developed by BAE Systems and the United States Army to replace TNT in artillery shells.

The Army has initially slated the explosive formulation as a TNT replacement in the new IM M795 155-millimeter artillery munition. It also has deemed IMX-101 a suitable replacement for any large-caliber munitions requiring the energetic performance equivalent to TNT.
