IMX-101 is a high-performance insensitive high explosive composite mixture developed by BAE Systems and the United States Army to replace TNT in artillery shells.

Thanks to the innovation of BAE Systems, the U.S. Army has begun phasing out the use of the explosive TNT in artillery. Its replacement, which is now in full production, is called IMX-101 and is much safer to handle and store than TNT, yet equally effective on the battlefield.

IMX-101 is a mixture of 3-nitro-1,2,4-triazol-5-one (NTO), 2,4-dinitroanisole (DNAN), andnitroguanidine (NQ). Two of these components, NTO and DNAN, have limited toxicity data. This report presents the latest toxicity data and interpretations for DNAN, NTO, and NQ, as well as the full IMX-101 combination (see paragraphs 7.3–7.6).

2022年4月25日 · IMX-101 and IMX-104 are novel insensitive melt-pour explosives developed and produced by BAE Systems at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant (HSAAP). The U.S. Army has selected these two explosives as common low-cost replacements for legacy explosives TNT and Composition-B used in indirect fire weapons such as artillery and mortar munition systems.

IMX-101 was fully characterized for hazard and performance behavior in accordance with the DoD Energetics Qualification Program Matrix for main charge explosives. Over 17,000 kg of IMX-101 had been produced at BAE-Holston from which one batch had been selected for qualification.

2018年5月15日 · This study examined the dissolution, fate and transport behavior of IMX-101 and IMX-104, new IM formulations, in two soils. Insensitive munitions dissolution resulted in distinct elution patterns with high initial concentrations for highly soluble NTO and NQ quickly followed by lower and relatively constant concentrations in column effluent.
