The modernized Galil ACE series was an update based upon the reliable mechanics of the original Galil rifle, first developed by IMI in the late 1960’s. Drawing inspiration from the legendary Russian AK-47 and the Finnish Valmet RK 62, the IWI Galil ACE updated those original Galil standards to modern international one.

The Galil is a series of Israeli built rifles designed in the 1960's by Yisrael Galil and Yaacov. These were made by Israel Military Industries aka (IMI). The Galil design was a blend of the Finnish Valmet and Kalashnikov AK-47. Most Galils are chambered for either the 5.56×45mm NATO or 7.62×51mm NATO cartridges.

The Galil is an assault rifle of Israeli origin. It was developed as during the Six-day war of 1967 it became clear that the FAL was not suitable enough for desert warfare. At the end of the war the decision was made to develop a new assault rifle based upon the Kalashnikov and the new 5.56x45mm cartridge.
