Hogmanay (/ ˈhɒɡməneɪ, ˌhɒɡməˈneɪ / HOG-mə-nay, -NAY, [2] Scots: [ˌhɔɡməˈneː] [3]) is the Scots word for the last day of the old year and is synonymous with the celebration of the New Year in the Scottish manner.
