The H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV), also called Kounotori (こうのとり, Kōnotori, "oriental stork" or "white stork"), is an expendable Japanese automated cargo spacecraft designed for International Space Station (ISS) resupply missions, particularly the Kibō Japanese Experiment Module (JEM).

New Space Station Resupply Vehicle (新型宇宙ステーション補給機, Shingata Uchū Sutēshon Hokyūki), tentatively called HTV-X, is an expendable Japanese cargo spacecraft used for International Space Station (ISS) resupply missions. The spacecraft is under development by Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) as the successor of H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV).

At exactly 31 minutes and 00 seconds past 2 o’clock on the morning of May 21, 2020, the H-II Transfer Vehicle known as "KOUNOTORI9" (HTV9), the cargo transporter to the International Space Station (ISS), was launched aboard H-IIB Launch Vehicle No. 9 (H-IIB F9) from the JAXA Tanegashima Space Center.

The new cargo transporter to the International Space Station (HTV-X) is an unmanned spaceship under development to acquire a spacecraft system with the potential for improving transportation capability and operability, which can be utilized for various missions in the future, while maintaining KOUNOTORI’s superiority.

We present below the technical specifications of the HTV-X being developed. The Service Module is the module which integrates all the functions required for the HTV-X to navigate in outer space. It also has functions of transporting exposed cargoes and devices to be used in technical demonstration missions.

Picking up where the KOUNOTORI (HTV) left off is the HTV-X, the latest model of transfer vehicles for transporting supplies into space. The vehicle will not only be used to deliver supplies to the International Space Station (ISS), but also provide a platform for space experimentation and open the door to future spaceflight technologies.
