Dec 18, 2005 · Your H4895 is 94 on the burn chart, IMR4895 is 96 on the burn chart. I've got one pound of the IMR I was going to use. But until I've got more of it I don't want to do load development on 1lbs of powder (308).
H4895 for a 308 - Sniper's Hide Forum
Jun 14, 2012 · H4895 is a great powder for a .308. I would rate Varget, H4895 and IMR 4064 as my top three choices. The H part of H4895 indicates that it is a extreme line series powder made by Hogdon. This means it is temp stable, a common complaint of RE15 powder. Work up a load, I have found good velocity with a accuracy.

Nov 12, 2013 · Tried the H4895 out today with 168 SMK's and my gun definitely likes it better than varget and 4064. It's a little faster than those 2 powders also. With a charge of 41.6 and 42 GRS of H4895 put me at 2670FPS with SD's in the single digits and dam near shot one hole groups. Tested with Lab Radar.

H4895 with .223 77 gr SMK | Sniper's Hide Forum
May 18, 2013 · Looking at the Hodgdon website it says 20.0gr -22.6gr max for H4895 powder for 77 SMK. However I also have a Sierra "manual" specific for AR15 reloading (.pdf I downloaded) that calls out loads of H4895 of 22.2gr - 23.6gr max for the 77 SMK. It is not as great a difference for the Varget (Hodgdon says 21.0 gr-23.7 gr and Sierra says 22.6 gr-23. ...

Apr 11, 2012 · Re: H4895 . . . is this load too hot? Help! Thanks guys. - Accuracy first, but I am more interested in speed with this particular load due to the fact that it's a hunting round. I figured H4895 was a good choice because Varget worked so well from the same barrel when it was 20" long, albeit 175g SMKs

Feb 19, 2025 · Regarding AR comp being a substitute for H4895, it wasn't for me. All my 223s and 223AIs love AR Comp for 40-55gr loads with excellent velocity and accuracy and it's my go to powder for the lighter bullets, but after testing I found AR comp was nowhere near as accurate as H4895 in any of them for the 69-80gr bullets.
