The Freeze Ray, which was invented by Dr. Nefario, is Felonius Gru's signature weapon and when fired it projects a ray that freezes anything instantly. Gru is first seen utilizing the Freeze Ray to freeze everybody in a coffee shop, in order to bypass a line and get his coffee quickly.

Some freeze rays operate by spraying a target with a sheet of ice or snow, like an icy version of a flamethrower. Some spray a stream of liquid, e.g. liquid nitrogen. Most commonly though, freeze rays fire blasts of coldness as laser beams to freeze the target.

Felonius Gru Sr., or simply Gru, is the main protagonist of Despicable Me Franchise, and is the son of Marlena Gru and the late Robert Gru. He is a former supervillain turned AVL agent and is the husband of AVL agent Lucy Wilde.
