Glóin was a Dwarf, the son of Thorin I and King of Durin's Folk. Glóin had one son, Óin. He along with his father left the Lonely Mountain for the Ered Mithrin in TA 2210, which became the seat of Durin's Folk for many years afterward.

Glóin was a Dwarf of Erebor who was a member of Thórin and Company who set out to reclaim Erebor during the Third Age. He was the youngest son of Gróin, the younger brother of Óin II, the cousin of Balin and Dwálin, the husband of Milli, and the father of Gimli.
