2024年12月2日 · I have curated a selection of generally affordable saws for dovetailing, dividing them into three basic families: gent’s saws, pistol-grip saws, and Japanese saws. My colleague Ken Burton and I tested each tool for ease of starting, sawing speed, smoothness of cut, and accuracy of tracking.

2019年9月13日 · Gent’s saws are basically smaller back saws that generally range from around 3″ on up to 10″. I’m writing this blog to simply say no woodworker should be without one. The 10″ is my favourite size and what cuts a lot cuts a little so I have little use for the smaller versions.

Our gent's saws have a 7 7/8" long high-carbon steel blade that is just 0.015" thick with 0.003" of teeth set per side. The 20 tpi rip saw has teeth with a 14° rake angle and a 60° included angle.

2017年11月29日 · With the handle and back centered, these saws are easy to control. I'm a big fan of the gent's saws. They're perfect for dovetailing and cutting all but the deepest tenons. What I like most about them is that their blades are thick enough so that if you start cutting a little crooked you can twist the blade and straighten out the cut.

The 8-inch Gent’s Saw from Blue Spruce Toolworks puts a blade similar to our Dovetail Saw into a form that some folks find easier to control when working on small scale joinery. While it has the same tooth configuration as the Dovetail Saw, the blade is 3" shorter and it has a chisel style handle instead of the traditional pistol-grip.
