Galena is an unincorporated community in Grant County, Oregon, United States, about 20 miles (32 km) from Austin Junction in the Blue Mountains. [1] It is on the Middle Fork John Day River in the Malheur national forest. The former gold mining camp is considered a ghost town. [2]

While the previous settlement has turned its ghost town-iness into an attraction, Galena has that more authentically abandoned feel. Originally called Susanville (after one of the original inhabitants), it was renamed Galena after the galena ore being mined here.

2022年1月22日 · Named for the copious amounts of galena ore found nearby, this small mining town is now abandoned. Lying in Grant County east of the John Day River, the remains of the town are on Up Middle Fork Road. Originally named Susanville, the town was relocated two miles up nearby Elk Creek to take advantage of the ore deposits.

Leading the list of the region's sights is the charming and historic little town of Galena, home to Civil War General and U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant. Dotting the green and gorgeous hills and dales, nearby villages are packed with sights, entertainment, and great travel opportunities.
