
EMD GP7 - Wikipedia
The EMD GP7 is a four-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division and General Motors Diesel between October 1949 and May 1954. [2] The GP7 was the first EMD road locomotive to use a hood unit design instead of a car-body design.

These 23 ex-GN GP7's were rebuilt to BN GP7u 1400's during 1974-1975: 1504-1521, 1523, 1527-1528, 1539, 1546. Last remaining ex-GN GP7's were retired by 1983. Three were sold to DIRR (1551-1552, 1554) and one, 1555 to FMRC.

First, the underframe of the FT is not compatible to turn it into a GP. Second, reportedly the "GP5" had 16-567B engines, while the FT series did NOT have B series engines. To my mind there are lots of unanswered and/or unknown questions concerning this whole subject. The GN named them "GP5", which was their prerogative.

4 天之前 · Additional info for GN GP7 #600/BN #1500:1/FW&D #700/BN #1670, now FarmRail #8255. Under FMRC ownership, this unit, which was rebuilt at an unknown date with a chopped nose, is listed by both RR Picture Archives and The Diesel Shop as a GP10.

GN FEATURES: Early squared winterization hatch; Tall GN style exhaust stacks; Hood roof-mounted bell; Extra grab irons; Long hood-forward operation; Great Northern rostered 56 GP7s, the earliest of which were delivered in 1950.
