I appreciate yall's earlier posts and pictures which gave me very good context for the information that our emeritus geologists shared with me.

2021年9月7日 · I’ve recently gotten back into prospecting fossils and I’m looking for some suggestions on sites to visit in western Pennsylvania. I frequently visit Ambridge PA to find fern and Calamite fossils from the Mahoning fm and would like to find more. I also would like to find fossils of early Permian (tetrapods, plants, or invertebrates).

2022年12月21日 · Clearly some nice fossils can be found, if you know exactly where to look, but there is a reason we don't see a lot of Puerto Rican fossils. Don Paleontology is a very scarce hobby and barely any locals here have any knowledge of fossils, and a lot of them still have the thought that fossils are only found in museums.

2024年9月29日 · Thanks! We just happen to live near some smaller rivers that cut through the ice age River Warren's gravel deposits along the Minnesota river. It takes lots of looking but ice age and older stuff is in the area. My friend has found some cretaceous leaf fossils also. I'll add them.

2021年5月27日 · Common Fossils of PA. This website has extremely OLD information, (in many cases, over 100 years old!) but may be a place to start your research. A lot of the information here is no longer accurate, because sites have disappeared under construction, parking lots, etc.

2021年6月22日 · In Central Texas you don't have to go very far to find fossils. But the Austin Chalk Formation is a little tricky finding good spots which are fairly fossiliferous. Fortunately, the Paleontological Society of Austin visits a couple of good spots and the fossiling was pretty decent this time, because we've had some good rains!
