Imagine leaving the Ford dealership in an AWD Escort Wagon w/Duratec engine (125 H.P.) and Sport Pkg.., etc. for about $ 17,000. I believe the market share to be there. I'll bet, Ford, if desired could have this out in 18 mos. and sell as many of those as regular FWD versions.

Recently got a 94 Ford Escort Wagon. Have had only a few weeks. Shifting was very smooth then the other day coming off our freeway exit when trying to shift out of first , could not get it to go into second. When we disconnected from where the piece goes into the tranny, you cojuld move the gear shift freely, clutch pressure is fine.

I have an 1992 Ford Escort wagon. The cooling fan will not come on at all. I jumped it with a hot and ground wire and it runs fine. I replaced the 2 (hi & low) speed cooling fan relays. I replaced the so call " cooling fan relay" in the under hood fuse/relay box which incidentally works with the cooling fan and the starter.

I replaced this and it was helpful - purchased one at the junk yard. Also I have a wagon and it has a wiring harness that goes from the rear body into the rear hatch.

I have a 95 escort wagon. It has been in the family since new and has 124,000 miles on it. 4spd auto. The check engine light has been coming on for quite sometime. However Ford has been unable to pull any codes, and wants an outrageous amount to check the car system by system.

Nonetheless, Ford has always been the Wagon master, since the 50's, and I don't see where that has changed yet. They aren't always as long lasting as the Japanese cars, often they aren't. But they are a superior design IMO. The folding rear seats in all the SUVs and wagons was done by Ford first, now they powerfold in most of them.

As a result, Ford could get by with using a 4-cyl engine as standard, and it probably wasn't much worse than a Volare with a 225 1-bbl or a Malibu with that tiny 200 V-6 they offered for a few years. Ford's 200 inline-6, which would've been hard-pressed in a car like a Granada or Maverick, would have done much better in a lighter Fairmont.
