Does NTFS compression slow SSD/flash performance?
2003年5月24日 · i wanted to get more space and eventually some speed on my ssd so i tried compression at windows level, here are my results : with ntfs compression on, it saved 18% size on my ssd (8gb freed on a 48gb uncompressed used disk space).about speed with my compressed ssd : crystal diskmark performances remained the same except a 10% slowdown in 512k random write (which is acceptable for me as ...

Booting from USB flash vs. SSD - AnandTech Forums
2012年7月2日 · USB flash drives are essentially low performance SSDs; the NAND is organized into a couple of channels at best (low total throughput) and is increasingly TLC NAND (lower lifetime), and the controllers are simple devices that don't take the kind of care SSD controllers do to hide latency and hold down write amplification.
Question Any way to resurrect a bricked fake SSD? - AnandTech …
2022年12月3日 · I bought a "2TB" SSD off AliExpress, ran h2testw on it, and it died after writing about 1TB to it. This and the way writing slowed down suggests to me that it was a 1TB QLC drive (which is also reasonably consistent with the price I paid).
Does Anyone Actually Know of a Worn Out SSD Due To Too Many …
2010年8月14日 · Between the lightning speed of the SSD and a dual core E8400 at 3.8 GHz, this system has a snappy feel to it that makes it a pleasure to use. Everything just happens instantly. Very satisfying. 15 months ago when I bought and installed my SSD, I made the decision not to do anything that would compromise speed and negate the cost of the SSD.
External USB 3.0 SSD, Fast sequential, excruciatingly slow random
2011年7月8日 · The cost of an external SSD, or making your own external 2.5" USB 3.0 SSD, shouldn't be too much more than whatever this cost you. That reads like it's basically a 256GB USB flash drive, or they also cheaped out on RAM, so it can't hold enough of the mapping tables w/o going out to the drive.
Sdcard vs USB flash drive lifespan - AnandTech Forums
2011年8月21日 · To me it depends on purpose. If I write 1GB a week on the cheap flash drive and it has 500 write cycles, that's enough years for my purposes. I do dozens of GB system partition backups on larger USB flash drives but only do those once a month. Supposing I completely filled one each time and it has 500 write cycles, that's 500/12mos. = 42 years.

2011年7月7日 · I've already seen 60GB SSDs around $40, and this morning's first Newegg Shellshocker was a 120GB SSD for $70 (after measly $10 rebate). And no that wasn't some old Vertex Plus crap, but a Vertex 3. Yup, arguably one of the fastest on the market, if …

Ideal block size for a modern NVMe SSD? - AnandTech Forums
2017年6月1日 · You can potentially end up writing f.x. 16KB for every 4KB the OS sends to the disk. The SSD already handles all mangement necessary, so there is no need to bother. If we're talking a secondary non-SSD disk, then set the cluster size to the NTFS maximum of 64KB, unless you have a boatload of tiny files on it. That'll help a bit with performance.
