Sogn og Fjordane includes the largest glacier in mainland Norway, Jostedalsbreen, in the Breheimen mountain range, and the deepest lake, Hornindalsvatnet. There are also many famous waterfalls located in the area.

Sogn og Fjordane is characterised by its many fjords, of which the Sognefjord, with a length of 204 km (127 mi), is the longest fjord in Europe (although not the longest in the world as claimed in some tourist brochures). The fjord systems in this county is complex and mountains rise directly from fjord making land transport challenging.
