荞麦（学名：Fagopyrum esculentum Moench），又称普通荞麦、甜荞、乌麦等，为蓼科（Polygonaceae）荞麦属（Fagopyrum）一年生草本植物。 荞麦茎直立，30~90厘米高，上部分枝，绿色或红色，圆柱形，中空。

2011年1月1日 · The genus Fagopyrum consists of about 19 species of which only two species, namely F. esculentum and F. tataricum, are cultivated. On the basis of morphological characters, the genus Fagopyrum has been divided into two phylogenetic groups, viz. the cymosum group and the urophyllum group.

Fagopyrum cymosum is the key species for interspecific crosses among species of the cymosum group. Fagopyrum cymosum is most closely related with the cultivated Tartary buckwheat as described above.
