In Greek mythology, Eteocles (/ ɪ ˈ t iː ə k l iː z /; Ancient Greek: Ἐτεοκλῆς) was a king of Thebes, the son of Oedipus and either Jocasta [1] or Euryganeia. Oedipus killed his father Laius and married his mother without knowing his relationship to either.

It begins a day after the defeat of the Seven against Thebes, soon after Creon, the new ruler of the city, has announced that Eteocles, who has died defending the city, shall be buried with honors, but his brother, the traitor Polynices, shall be left for the dogs to devour.

Eteocles was a king of Thebes in Greek mythology, son of Oedipus and Jocasta, and brother of Polynices, Antigone and Ismene. Their father, Oedipus, had previously murdered his father Laius and married his mother Jocasta without anyone knowing the relationship between them.

Antigone is the girl who will rise up alone and die young. Haemon, Antigone's dashing fiancé, chats with Ismene, her beautiful sister. Though one would have expected Haemon to go for Ismene, he inexplicably proposed to Antigone on the night of a ball. Creon is king of Thebes, bound to the duties of rule.
