Starting in games from late 1999, the video game commercials now require the announcer to say the ESRB ratings, regardless of which content the video game products are suitable for. In 2003, the ESRB ratings were facelifted, with the Everyone 10+ rating being introduced in 2005. They were still used in some box arts and trailers in 2013.

ESRB ratings provide information about what’s in a game or app so parents and consumers can make informed choices about which games are right for their family. Ratings have 3 parts: Rating Categories, Content Descriptors, and Interactive Elements.
