Eridan just came across to me as a really awkward and confused kid who needs some guidance, he is shown to have a caring side but the life on Alternia has shaped him into a selfish megalomaniac person who eventually snapped(ACT 5-2), you can compare him a lot with Equius and Vriska, actually.
