2020年7月14日 · Erastus Inscription. During the reign of Emperor Claudius, around the middle of the 1st century AD and perhaps just before 50 AD, an official named Erastus paid for an area near the theater to be paved with stone at Corinth, capital of the Roman province of Achaia.

Archaeologists working on an excavation of a first-century road uncovered a stone with the inscription: "Erastus, Commissioner of Public Works" According to the Bible, Erastus was also one of the earliest Evangelists who spread the gospel to the Gentiles.

Erastus of Corinth (Greek: Ἔραστος, Erastos), also known as Erastus of Paneas, held the political office of steward (Greek: οἰκονόμος, oikonomos), in Corinth, according to the Epistle to the Romans 16:23 of the New Testament. The office is defined as "the manager of household or of household affairs" or, in this context, "treasurer". [1] .

We have two letters that Paul sent to Corinth in the letters of 1st & Second Corinthians. This inscription contains the name of Erastus (RASTVS) which was the name of a Christian official in Corinth. This stone was found in Corinth and many believe that this is the man mentioned in the Bible. Scriptures: Romans 16:23 and Acts 19:22 and 2Tim 4:20.
