From 2401 through 2415 were C424s. EL's first new diesel order after the 1960 merger of the ERIE & DL&W.

2023年4月1日 · American Locomotive Company (Alco) used the word "Century" to brand its new line of 12 and 16-cylinder locomotives that were introduced in 1963. The marketing strategy was aimed at capitalizing on the "100" improvements and new features built into its 251C-driven series of four and six-axle freight haulers.

The ALCO C424 model was one of the first “Century-series” locomotives to be produced. Its 16-cylinder 251B-series prime mover produced 2,400-hp, making it a direct competitor to the 2,500-hp GE U25B and EMD GP35 models.

There have been a few posts recently showing Alco C424's on the EL. Before I worked on the railroad I always preferred the C425's. I thought they looked better, and with the upgraded main generator and 100 more horsepower suitably matched the competition's GP35 and U25B models.

EL Alco Century Locomotives Alco C424. The Alco C424 2400 Horsepower units were the first locomotives purchased by the EL. They were delivered in the Erie black and yellow color. What was interesting about this units is that they were setup to MU with all Erie locomotives.
