Defence of the holy EMG 81! (My experiences)
2015年7月4日 · The EMG 81's are best utilised with the mesa mark series amps (which are known for their aggressive crunch rhythm tones, particularly the 2C+) I went to my friends studio who has a Mesa mark iic+, iii & iv and we made high quality recordings of my Dimarzio Super distortion bridge pickup to his guitar with EMG 81 for rhythms and leads.
SD Blackout vs. EMG 81/85 - Seymour Duncan User Group Forums
2009年2月20日 · The huge difference is the added bottom end on the Blackout bridge. Usually I had to put an EMG-85 in the bridge to get bottom end since the EMG-81 was so thin and trebly. Not the case here. The Blackout bridge has a growling bottom end, whereas the EMG's were a bit muddy. The Blackout set is also very well matched tonally.
EMG 81 in the neck? - Seymour Duncan User Group Forums
2006年12月23日 · Re: EMG 81 in the neck? I once had a 81/81 setup on my ESP M-II. I really liked it in the neck for high gain. The middle position worked very well too, even if I don't really use it that often. The only caveat IMO is that the 81 is pretty much a high gain only -pickup. But it excels in it. The 89, however, is a different story.
EMG 81 vs. Seymour Duncan JB
2005年4月9日 · Re: EMG 81 vs. Seymour Duncan JB I posted I this thread back in 2005 and now have even more experience with both. I would choose the JB over the 81 almost every time because t has more & better tone. There are certain guitar wood and amp combinations where the 81 would be better, especially talking about Metal music. Sent from my iPhone using ...
EMG 81/85 vs 57/66 sets? - Seymour Duncan User Group Forums
Re: EMG 81/85 vs 57/66 sets? I guess within the EMG world, the 57 is the most open and passive-like one I've tried (I haven't tried the Retroactives), but it still sounds like an EMG. If you want something completely different, the 57/66 isn't what you should be looking at.
What's the EMG 81 like in Alder? - Seymour Duncan User Group …
2010年9月5日 · Re: What's the EMG 81 like in Alder? Brighter, for the lack of a better term and to put it quite simple. Give the 85 a shot in the bridge, if possible! Otherwise, the 81 is bright but, defined. The 85 seems a bit more "organic" and evened out a bit. Honestly, I love 'em both in Alder depending on the tuning.
My EMG 81/85 swap experiment, thoughts
2018年12月27日 · Re: My EMG 81/85 swap experiment, thoughts Another thing to try is a PA-2 toggle or an AB-knob and set it to boost the neck pup only so it gets the results youre looking for. Some guys boost their 60's a little bit which also have a ceramic mag like the 81 because they prefer that mag type in the neck...
Passive alternatives to EMG 81/85's - Seymour Duncan User Group …
2015年6月9日 · For the closest sounding bridge the miracle man by bareknuckle is always recommended. For the neck a coldsweat by bkp is good, If you are on the cheap the dimarzio d activators seem to have a near active feel, for sd the nazgul sentient combo works well and sounds pretty compressed and tight like an emg, blackwinters as well might be better suited to …
What does the EMG 81 do? - Seymour Duncan User Group Forums
2022年10月25日 · The EMG 81 is very particular because the active preamp imparts a lot of its character. Not sure how much it has to do with the preamp, and how much it has to do with the actual wind/magnet, but the 81 shaves off a lot of bottom-end, and it's not particularly sizzly (compared to passives, that is).
Alternatives to EMG 81 - Seymour Duncan User Group Forums
2013年8月16日 · Re: Alternatives to EMG 81 I went from the '81 to a '60 and then on to the Blackouts. The AHB2 is a great metal/chugging pickup but does not have a useable clean tone. The AHB1 is a very hot pickup with no picking dynamics what so ever, it sounds like it is on 11 even when I turn it down.
