The EMC E5 is a 2,000-horsepower (1,500 kW), A1A-A1A passenger train-hauling diesel locomotive manufactured by Electro-Motive Corporation, and its corporate successor, General Motors' Electro-Motive Division (EMD) of La Grange, Illinois.

2024年12月19日 · Per Electro-Motive's common practice for passenger models, the E5 used an A1A-A1A truck setup (meaning the center axle was unpowered) and featured two GM model 567 prime movers; combined these could produce 2,000 horsepower.

Named after a movie of the same name which featured the CB&Qs distinctive corrugated equipment, the Silver Streak Zephyr and its specially built EMD E5A unit Silver Bullet was a short distance luxury train that operated between Lincoln, Nebraska and Kansas City with stops in Omaha and St. Joseph.

CBQ 9911A is preserved as such. An E5A, it spent some time as CS 9952A in the late 60's. Named Silver Pilot, it operated the Texas Zephyr before getting brought to the Illinois Railway Museum, firstly as 9952A then being restored as CBQ 9911A.

2024年2月1日 · This month I will be revisiting an old friend – the Kato Precision Railroad Models Electro-Motive Division (EMD) E5A diesel locomotive. The glistening stainless steel engines were exclusively manufactured for the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad in the 1940s.

The EMD E5 is a 2000 horsepower standard gauge A1A-A1A passenger-hauling diesel locomotive manufactured by the Electro-Motive Corporation and later the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors from 1940 to 1941.

Colorado & Southern Railway E5 9955 at Colorado Springs, Colorado on August 19, 1964, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built as CB&Q 9914A (c/n 1301) on EMD Order E377-A , named SILVER ARROW, it was sold to C&S September 20, 1961, traded to EMD March 15, 1968.

A special feature of the new Kato EMD E5A is that the front coupler cowling can be removed on both the skirted and un-skirted units in order to mount a Kato magnetic knuckle coupler – this allows modelers to double head these locomotives when pulling longer trains such as the California Zephyr!
