Eastern Railroad Discussion > GE vs. EMD - Trainorders.com
8. The current EMD Super Series wheel slip control system, introduced with the SD50 and GP60 series, is generally considered inferior to the GE Sentry wheel slip correction system. The EMD system permits controlled wheel slip, since this can actually increase tractive effort.
Connecting rods in EMD prime movers? - Trainorders.com
EMD's 567 and 645 angines (and the 710 too, for all I know) are V's with the pairs of cylinders opposite each other (i.e. not offset, which could allow each piston its own bearing on the crankshaft). Rather than pin one connecting rod to the big end of the other one, EMD used fork-and-blade rods, allowing both pistons to push on the crankshaft ...
Nostalgia & History > Low idle on EMD freight locomotives
The new models have the automatic shutdown feature after 10 minutes of idling in the center position. If the engineer doesn't hit the reset button in time the engine shuts off. I have noticed over the years that an EMD in low idle the pitch of the turbo charger is much different and much louder. Posted from Android Edited 1 time(s).
EMD control stands - Trainorders.com
Yes, the new two-handled control stand came out in 1972 and, like Nudge says, mostly because of the wreck on the Cuesta Grade in 1969. GE later came out with their own version (with the later versions of the U33C?) which basically was the same thing as what EMD had. I must admit I do miss the old barrel type control stand like the early EMD's had.
EMD demonstrator through Austin - Trainorders.com
In the past few days, the Austin Sub has seen a steady stream of EMDX and PRLX SD70ACe-T4s in various paint schemes. These units are returning to Progress Rail after their lease on Ferromex ended this month. I caught one bright yellow …
Western Railroad Discussion > EMD 1010 engine - Trainorders.com
I see Crisanti's post was pulled, but it claimed the 1010 was in the new EMD tier 4. Is that the 265H again? Did they get the bugs worked out of the bottom end? Think the SD90MACH units UP had went back to VMV to get crank work .
EMD’s 50 Series....lemon or just lore? - Trainorders.com
The 645F was clearly a stretch beyond it's capability. However, EMD did not walk away from the problems presented by this design, Both Conrail and CSX (and I am sure others) set up dedicated bays in their shops (Altoona and Huntington) where EMD personnel performed block modifications to these units.
Has Amtrak Ruled Out the Purchase of EMD F125s - Trainorders.com
There is an consortium set up that is run buy the states that is buying the equipment. Amtrak is just the operator. And there was a full competiton that Siemens won and EMD protested to no avail. I think the F125 proposal reqauired urea injection for emissions control as well, which was fine for local agencies like Metrolink.

GM/EMD Trucks: HTCR vs HTSC - Trainorders.com
The EMD HTCR (and now HTSC) truck followed the Dofasco. GE was originally going to use the Dofasco truck under it's Dash 9s and AC units, but the shorter wheelbase (about 30" less than a typical American truck) made for terrifically high bridge stresses at locomotive weights over 390,000 pounds, hence, the Dofasco was only used on GE's first ...
