The Dwad is a harmonic of the chart. Dwad is an abbreviation of Dwadashamsha, the term for a 12th harmonic chart in Vedic astrology. The oriental Vedic system has understood and embraced the harmonics of the birth chart for far longer than the western tradition.

Dodecatemoria (also called a dwadasamsa, dwadachamsha, dwad or duad) is 1/12 of a zodiacal sign. The dwadasama was developed by Hindu astrologers who broke the 30 degree sign down into 12 equal parts of 2.5 degrees each.

Dwads can be used to detect finer shades of meaning in a natal horoscope, or to detect differences in the charts of identical twins. Dwads are rarely used in practice, however. There exists a close relationship between the 12th Harmonic Chart and the Dodecatemoria chart. Both are variants of the 12th harmonic.
