The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 is an American trijet wide-body airliner manufactured by American manufacturer McDonnell Douglas (MDC) and later by Boeing. Following DC-10 development studies, the MD-11 program was launched on December 30, 1986. Assembly of the first prototype began on March 9, 1988.

首架md-11客机于1990年12月7日交付予芬兰航空，并于12月20日首度载客，该航班从赫尔辛基出发，前往加那利群岛的特内里费岛。但不久之后，md-11的问题开始出现，包括其续航距离、耗油量等方面的表现均未如理想。
