Visit Downtown Madison. Set on an isthmus between two scenic lakes, Madison's Central Business District encompasses the heart of downtown Madison, where the famed State Street pedestrian mall links the Capitol Square, seat of Wisconsin state government, to the University of Wisconsin campus.

The BID Downtown Madison Map and Guide is a detailed walking map of the central downtown district with listings and locations for nearly 400 businesses, cultural organizations and visitor destinations, plus parking and transit information.

Downtown Madison is a unique shopping, business and cultural district that boasts more than 300 retail, restaurant and entertainment establishments, with most locally owned. A vibrant pedestrian and transit mall, State Street is the perfect setting to shop in all seasons.

Madison’s Central Business Improvement District (BID) is excited to announce the expansion of the Madison Night Market onto Capitol Square for the 2024 season. This year’s market dates are May 9, June 13, August 8, September 12, and October 17, from 5-9 p.m.

Formed in 1999, Madison's Central Business Improvement District (BID) is a City of Madison assessment district encompassing State Street (from Park Street to the Capitol Square) and the Capitol Square area (the Square plus most 100 block streets or “spokes” off the Square).

Shine On Madison is six-week community event, started in 2017 to increase visibility and traffic to businesses downtown, includes a seasonal lighting ceremony, a special focus on downtown retailers, enjoyment of the arts and a strong sense of community.
