Dio was an American heavy metal band formed in 1982 and led by vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Dio left Black Sabbath with intentions to form a new band with fellow former Black Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice. [1] .

He fronted numerous bands throughout his career, including Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven & Hell. Dio's music career began in 1957 as part of the Vegas Kings (later Ronnie and the Rumblers). In 1967, he formed the rock band Elf, in which he sang and played bass.

Dio was an American heavy metal band centred around vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Formed in 1982, the group originally consisted of Dio, guitarist Jake E. Lee (replaced by Vivian Campbell for the first active lineup of the band), bassist Jimmy Bain and drummer Vinny Appice.

Ronald James Padavona joined/formed his first band in 1957 called The Vegas Kings, which was later changed to Ronnie & the Rumblers, and ultimately Ronnie & the Red Caps; this band called it quits in 1961. Next, he formed Ronnie Dio and the Prophets in the Autumn of 1961; the band lasted until 1967.
