The IC4 is an inter-city rail train built by the Italian train manufacturer AnsaldoBreda for the trans- Great Belt routes of Danske Statsbaner (DSB), Denmark 's national railway operator. Under DSB's 'Good trains for everyone' plan ('Gode tog til alle'), the intent of the IC4 project was to replace several types of outdated rolling stock.

IC4 har en del komponent- og systemfælleskab med lillesøsteren IC2. Navnet IC4 blev valgt, fordi et togsæt består af fire vogne: en motorvogn MG, en mellemvogn FH med lavgulv og flexareal, en mellemvogn FG og en motorvogn MG med en samlet længde mellem koblingerne på 86,5 meter.

Danske Statsbaner (DSB) has commissioned PROSE Ltd. to undertake an independent external assessment of the current situation of the IC4/IC2 project. The assessment is being undertaken by PROSE with consultant support from Swiss Federal Railways. DSB has 82 IC4 4-coaches and 23 IC2 2-coaches diesel trainsets.

This report examines how DSB (Denmark’s national railway operator) has procured and completed IC4 and IC2 trains. The study has been performed at the request of the Public Accounts Committee following Rigsrevisionen’s memorandum of 10 January 2012 to the Committee on the organization of a major examination of the IC4 and IC2 trains.
