Speaking about that, after reading all the opinions here I think I will just use my emergency anchor which is an 8lb fluke slip-ring to secure the stern at sandbars. I will forgo the slip ring and shackle the line directly to the shaft. There seems to be no "must-have" benefit to a stick anchor, expensive or otherwise.
