Colehour Junction is west of Colehour Yard. It is the northern terminus of the South Chicago & Southern and is where it joined the Pennsy mainline . The SC&S is now the Burnham Greenway.

I'm wondering if anyone can explain what Colehour Yard in Hammond/Whiting, Indiana is used for. My guess is block swapping of intermodal traffic? Stack trains are always there (this one is entering the yard heading west) but it isn't an intermodal terminal.

2017年1月17日 · It's a block storage yard for intermodal stacks. They stage stuff there so the other two yards are kept clear for stuff they are working on. Also gets used to store blocks of Coil Steel cars.

It is Colehour Yard. NS has an intermodal facility at Englewood, called 63rd St now, formerly Park Manor. It's about six miles or so from Colehour.

In 1893, a gruesome, head-on collision between two trains, sometimes referred to as the Colehour wreck, killed thirteen people and injured dozens more just outside of Roby. Like most tragedies, it should never have happened. It was just one of many deadly incidents in the deplorable record of the U.S. railroad industry in the 1890’s.
