BEWARE: Audi, a car company dedicated to "Truth in Engineering" cannot even get coils right. Just a winding of wires that has been around since the 1920's Audi technical experts just cannot come up with a long lasting performing coils for many of their motors leaving owners holding the expensive bag for repairs when out of guarantee..

Many folks on vwvortex.com and clubb5.com are reporting the exact same problem - car shakes, MIL flashing, coil pack dead. VW used to replace all 4 when this happens, since the other 3 coils are being "over worked". They've changed their stance and are replacing only the bad coil pack due to short supplies. This was also mentioned in AutoWeek.

Bingo, good pic: The ignition coil sits right at the top of the engine. Easy to find because all 4 spark plug wires lead right to it. You unplug those 4 wires, remove 2 screws, replace it with the new one, replace 2 screws, plus in 4 wires. Seriously, it's that easy. And there's only one ignition coil, so it's a cheap fix.

The cap is not recieving a spark from the coil though, which is the cause if it's sudden death and failure to start. It's very random though, predictable, yet random. Sometimes I wait 10 min, other times it's an hour and a half. The sweet spot seems to be at 30 min however. If the car sits for a while it seems to start fine on the first shot.

NOW, because of how toyota is handling this problem, I want nothing to do with toyota products, hybid or non-hybrids. This is a design flaw that toyota needs to live up to. even if the coil on my car was the problem, the car has 2 drive systems, electric motors, one on each rear wheel, and a gas engine driving the front wheels.

Coil, wires, bearings, (shaft not poling) and harnesses all checked out perfect. Anyway, I bought a Cardone Rebuilt from Auto Zone for $300.00 (w/core return) and lifetime warranty. Installed the distributor, just to find now that the fuel pump is not working.
