A pair of CSX GP 30s in heritage schemes have just dropped their train at William Street in Buffalo, where it will be picked up by D&H power (a U33C and GP 39-2 combo) and taken on to Binghamton and New Jersey.

The Electromotive Division GP30 is a 4 axle, 2,250 HP diesel-electric locomotive built by EMD from 1961 to 1963. It used a turbo charged 16 cylinder 567D3 engine rated at 2,250 HP. The GP30 was built largely as a response to GE's new 2,500 HP U25B and ALCO's RS27 .

2016年1月28日 · The GP30 was a big seller in the US but only two were sold (to CP) in Canada. Does anyone know if these two were perhaps the tailend of someone else’s order, or did CP really only want just two for some specific purpose? They were probably built in the US… can’t see the London plant retooling for a model that would only sell two.

The EMD GP30 is a 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between July 1961 and November 1963. A total of 948 units were built for railroads in the United States and Canada. The GP30’s were designed to compete with GE’s U25B.

It retained the turbocharged 16-cylinder 567-series engine of the GP20 (uprated from 2000 to 2250 horsepower) and was initially known as a "GP22", following EMD's short-lived tradition of linking the model name to horsepower.

866, Class GP30, was built in September 1962, #27575, FN 5643-67. It was retired in May 1985 and sold to National Railway Equipment on January 8, 1988. It was sold to Soo Line in August 1988 and stored.
