2022年3月2日 · I’ve never seen “chink” except to mean cracks, like “chink in the armor”. But I grew up with the people around me calling our eyes “chinky” as an English translation for how we’d normally describe our eye shape in the vernacular. I’m part-Chinese, so the people I’m referring to are also mostly part-Chinese.

So to answer your question, yes the use of the word “chinky” is racist and derogatory coming from anyone. Especially if they followed up by pulling the corners of their eyes.

Both slanted and obvs chinky have a high chance of offending kasi lahat nalang sinira nang Wnglish speakinh side of the world lol.edit: i'd suggest serpentene eyes as well but havwn't personally tested it out if makaka offwnd but if ure talking to someone that knows u personally then go nuts i guess :))

My husband is from Nepal and when we were dating would casually drop the term chinky when describing people - not in a derogatory way but as a descriptor of East Asian looking faces. I’m ethnically East Asian American and that immediately rubbed me the wrong way, so I told him why the term is hurtful and what other words he could use instead.

It seems a lot of people know it to be a racist statement, but people around me use it all the time, but not in a negative light. And I’ve never known it was a slur. For reference, I’m American and my dad always says my little sister is his twin because of their small/chinky eyes, even though hers are much smaller than his.
