Take this scenic journey with an all-wheel/four-wheel drive, for stunning views travelling along this part paved, part gravel road. Follow the razor-backed ridges of the Range, providing breathtaking downward views into stark multi-coloured gorges and across stunning views to the Exmouth Gulf and backwards to the Ningaloo Reef in Indian Ocean.

It is a moderately difficult loop trail traversing the top of Cape Range. The trail winds its way through rocky gullies, small gorges and open spinifex bushland. The Charles Knife Road turn-off is 22 kilometres (20-minute drive) south of Exmouth.

Charles Knife Canyon is located around 20 km south of Exmouth on the eastern end of Cape Range National Park. You can take the Minilya - Exmouth turnoff road and travel 11 km into to the canyon, along windy road that travels up to and along the rim from which you are afforded remarkable views into the canyon on both sides of the road.

Take a scenic drive around the canyon and seize the opportunity to stop and examine the colourful layers of the rock face. Join the walking trail at the bottom of the canyon to explore much of the national park land and look out for some of the resident marsupials. Charles Knife Road is located 21 kilometres south of Exmouth.

On the east coast, a very scenic, partially sealed and at times dramatically narrow 11km-long road ascends a knife-edge ridge via rickety corners. A rough track (passable by 2WD) continues to Thomas Carter lookout (at 311m, with great views). From near the lookout, in the cooler months you can walk the 6.8km Badjirrajirra Trail.
