Cars was a product of indulgence. Lasseter is a huge car nut and really wanted to make a movie about cars, and to an extent that was the beginning and end of that train of thought. It wasn't bad, but it was very unambitious. But atleast with the first one, I can accept the creative merit of a director wanting to express his love for his hobby.
