Carme / ˈ k ɑːr m iː / is a retrograde irregular satellite of Jupiter. It was discovered by Seth Barnes Nicholson at Mount Wilson Observatory in California in July 1938. [1] It is named after the mythological Carme, mother by Zeus of Britomartis, a Cretan goddess.

Carme is the 14th of the 79 confirmed Jupiter moons now known to orbit Jupiter, and its discovery took place in 1938. American astronomer Seth Barnes Nicholson discovered Carme at the Mount Wilson Observatory in California in July of 1938.
