Carlisle Arts Learning Center is a not-for-profit visual arts school and gallery serving the community with varied, affordable, and engaging art experiences. CALC offers art classes to the general public and free high-quality gallery exhibits all year.

Carlisle and Cumbria Artists present their 55 th annual exhibition at the Fratry Hall at Carlisle Cathedral, launching at 10am on Saturday 27 July. There will be hundreds of original paintings along with cards for sale by 60 local artists, who are all locally based in and around Carlisle.

Kathy Maxwell, an artist from Carlisle, Pennsylvania specializes in original watercolor paintings. She draws inspiration from the surrounding towns and countryside, as well as coastal regions. Many of her paintings are available as prints. Commissioned work will be considered. Kathy Maxwell began drawing and painting as a child.

Carlisle Cathedral is distinguished by an exceptional amount of late medieval painting, notably the extensive figurative programme associated with Prior Thomas Gondibour (c. 1465-c. 1500) on the reverse of the choir-stalls, and the strikingly sophisticated decoration of the ceiling executed for Prior Senhouse (c. 1500-c. 1520) in the Prior’s Tower.
