
EMD F9 - Wikipedia
The EMD F9 is a 1,750 horsepower (1,300 kW) Diesel-electric locomotive produced between February 1953 and May 1960 by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors (EMD) and General Motors Diesel (GMD). It succeeded the F7 model in GM-EMD's F-unit sequence. Final assembly was at GM-EMD's La Grange, Illinois plant.

CSX once had a fleet of executive F units, but replaced them with former Amtrak F40PH units from around 1997 to 2006 (with #9992 and #9993 purchased and received from 1997 to 1999, while #9998 and #9999 were purchased and received in 2006).

2024年11月5日 · The FP9 was the passenger variant of Electro-Motive's final traditional F series model, the F9. With interest waning for streamlined diesels by the mid-1950s, and rail travel in decline, no U.S. railroad elected to purchase the FP9 (although Chicago & North Western did have former FTA's #5400A, 5400D - 5401A, 5401D rebuilt into FP9s in 1955).

The F7 (1949) and F9 (1954) were evolutionary: the F7 had improved traction motors, the F9 a 1,750 hp (1.30 MW) 567C engine. A louver arrangement over the vents changed their appearance from the F3. There were also 4-foot-longer (1.2 m) versions, the FP7 and FP9, the extra length being used to house a tank for extra water capacity.

We need to accept that we won’t always make the right decisions, that we'll screw up royally sometimes—understanding that failure is not the opposite of success, it’s part of success.

The F9 was the fifth model in GM-EMD's highly successful "F" series of cab unit diesel locomotives. A F9 can be distinguished reliably from a late F7 only by the addition of an extra filter grille ahead of the front porthole on the side panels on A units.
